Christmas Collectibles

There are many items that people collect centered around the Christmas season. For example, in our family we have collected the Hallmark "Frosty Friends" series of Christmas ornaments for years. Other people make collections of unique Christmas cards, or add a new item to a particular collection, such as a special doll collection that one of my wife's aunts enjoys. Railroad buffs may add another train car to their Christmas train collection. And one of the more popular collections during recent years is the Christmas village.

A Christmas village is a decorative miniature-scale village, usually depicting classic Victorian era scenes and have accessories such as street lights and lighted trees. The houses are usually made of ceramic or porcelain and are usually placed around the base of a Christmas tree, on a side table display, a fireplace mantelpiece or in a large bay window. You might even see a model train run through the village.

Artist Thomas Kinkade creates and licenses items for his series, the Kinkade Village, but there a number of other brand name and off-brand series sold as well. Unpainted project kits can even be found in some craft stores.
